March 2008 ~ Update
From the start of the school year through the month of February over 4,500 hours of volunteer time was recorded in grades K-8. Volunteers generously donate their time in the classrooms as well as for specific events like: fundraisers, Harvest Luncheon, screenings, book swaps, food drives, magazine drive...... just to name a few! The Gorham Schools appreciate all that our school volunteers do. THANK YOU!
Volunteers are invaluable members of the educational team in Gorham. The time that you give to the schools greatly increases the opportunities that can be offered for students. The volunteer forms for this year are attached. As you will see, opportunities range from those requiring a regular commitment to others that can be done as your time allows.
I am pleased to announce that the Gorham School Committee funded a part time coordinator for the Gorham School Volunteer Program for this year. Laurie Bowring will be filling this position. As many of you know, Laurie has been working in this capacity through the adult education program for a number of years. Her assistance has been invaluable in organizing this program. You may reach her at 222-1095 or at laurieb@gorhamschools.org.
Here is the process for signing up to volunteer:
1. Complete the Volunteer Interest Form 2. Complete the attached Confidential Information Sheet. 3. Return both forms to: Gorham School Volunteer Program 41 Morrill Ave. Gorham, ME 04038 or email to kater @ gorhamschools.org.
Remember, forms must be completed each year.
New volunteers to the district must attend a volunteer orientation before beginning to volunteer. The orientation schedule follows. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please call Laurie to arrange an individual orientation.

Thank you to each and everyone one of you for the time you give to the schools. You are giving the children of Gorham a very clear message that you value them and that their education is important. Have a wonderful year.
