Summer Curriculum Workshop

Each summer, assuming that there are sufficient funds in the budget, it is the intent of the District to provide teachers with the opportunity to engage in workshops with colleagues focusing on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. These workshops are designed to provide teachers with unencumbered time to work on substantive components of the educational program with their colleagues. The length of a workshop will be between one and five days in length, five hours each day, and may include a minimum of two teachers and, in most circumstances, a maximum of five.

Teachers who are interested in engaging in a workshop are encouraged to submit a written proposal to their respective building Principal. If the Principal approves the proposal it is then submitted to the Director of Assessment & Curriculum for approval, and, if approved at that level, it is submitted to the Superintendent for final action.

Each team of teachers must designate one of the members to serve as coordinator. The
responsibility of the coordinator is to submit the proposal, including the rationale for it; to secure the space and the resources required for the workshop; and, once the workshop is completed, to submit a one-page narrative with supporting evidence of the work achieved during the workshop. Copies of this report are to be submitted to the Principal, the Director of Assessment & Curriculum, and the Superintendent.  Once they have received and reviewed the report, the Business Office will process payment for each participant at the contractual rate of pay.

Proposals that are connected to content areas in the curriculum review cycle, those content area  that have been under review and development, and those content areas that are about to be reviewed, will, in most circumstances, received priority for funding.

The deadline for submitting a proposal is the third Friday in May. A final decision by the Superintendent on all applications will be made once the school budget for the next year has received final approval by the School Committee and the Town Council.
