Dear K-5 Community,
What a wonderful spring we have enjoyed! Now we are getting the rain that is so desperately needed--perfect for all the greenery and keeping the temperatures bearable as we close out the year. Here is a summary of our spring work.
In March we determined the number of specialists that are needed in each building based on projected numbers of students and classrooms. We reviewed the model for staffing the instructional support services in literacy and math and refined the assignment of staff at each of the buildings. A list of topics was generated that we will use to determine which items are core to K-5, and which items may be decided at the building level.
In April we shared feedback from staff about how to inform them of their assignments and decided a letter in the mailbox of each person on May 3rd would allow individuals to open them privately if they chose. The envelope would also contain a list of staff at each of the three schools. The team discussed the format of the May 4th Inservice at Village in which we would get all staff together and then divide them into their respective ënewí buildings. Dennis Libby, Chair of the School Committee, would address the staff to open the afternoon. Again, we reviewed the staff lists, and looked at numbers and assignments of Ed Techs within the Instructional Services Support model. All assignments of course, are contingent upon sufficient budget funding for the school year
2011-2012.
On May 14th, we discussed the feedback from staff regarding assignments and reviewed the work developed by the new staff configurations on May 4th: What do you see as our collective work for 2010-2011? What are your worries? What do you think individual staff will need before the move? What opportunities does this create? This information will anchor our work for next year. We refined a section of the building plan for the new school in order to give timely information to the PDT architects. Finally we developed meeting dates for the ensuing year.
This year has been one of significant importance and we are looking forward to our work together for next year. We sincerely hope your summer is peaceful, but filled with your favorite activities so that you can rejuvenate your energies for a busy year to come.
Respectfully, The K-5 Transition Team
