“NEW”
Gorham School Volunteer Program
“Almost Paperless” Registration
2012-2013

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

Welcome back!!!
I hope you all have enjoyed the summer and are looking forward to the new school year.  As we settle in to the first couple of weeks of school please take a few moments to think about what types of volunteering that you may be willing to participate in this school year.

I am very pleased to announce that the Gorham schools volunteer program has been able to go virtually “paperless” this year.  We feel it is important to help the environment by using less paper as well as trying to do our part in reducing the paper budget for the school district.

Registration will take place online.
The volunteer interest form and confidentiality form are online. The paperwork will not be sent home this year. Thank you!

Please remember that volunteers are invaluable members of the educational program in Gorham schools.  The time you give greatly increases the opportunities offered the students.  There are many ways that you can assist in this program, such as:
chaperoning field trips,
baking for events,
helping with flu clinics,
vision and hearing,
working with students in the classroom,
helping out with career days,
tutoring, and
chaperoning dances.
These are just a handful of ways that you can help!

Registration

1.  You must complete Registration Forms and the Confidentiality Form each year. There are three different volunteer forms:

Kindergarten through 5th Grades   You can identify up to 4 elementary children on one form.

Middle and High School.  You can identify up to 4 middle and high school students on one form.

Community Volunteer   This form is individuals who would like to volunteer and do not have children in the school system.

2.  You also must complete a Confidentiality Form.  Unfortunately, we were unable to go paperless with this form.  Please PRINT the confidentiality form, fill it out and drop it off at one of the schools or mail it to Heidi McGouldrick at 106 Weeks Road, Gorham, 04038.   We need to have these forms in place before you can begin volunteering.

Orientation

Every new volunteer must attend an orientation once before they begin their volunteer time in the Gorham schools. Orientation is about 30 minutes.

The volunteer orientation will be held on the following days:

Village school on Monday, September 10th at 9:00 am
Great Falls school on Tuesday, September 11th at 9:00 am
Narragansett school on Wednesday, September 12th at 9:00 am

If you are unable to attend one of the day options listed above I will be offering two evening volunteer orientations on the following dates:

Gorham Middle school on Tuesday, October 2nd at 6:30 pm in the library
Gorham Middle school on Tuesday, December 4th at 6:30 pm in the library

Thank you in advance for all of the time and effort that you will be giving to the Gorham schools throughout the school year!  It is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Heidi McGouldrick
