Mission Statement

The Gorham School Volunteer Program’s mission is to increase student achievement through meaningful parent and community involvement in our schools.

Your tremendous donation of time, skills, talents, warmth, and attention is invaluable to our students and staff.  Thank you!!!

Let’s Celebrate!!!!!!

Custodian, Bus driver, Nutritional staff
Appreciation breakfast

Please help us celebrate the wonderful, behind the scences efforts that our custodians, nutritional staff, and bus drivers give to our children!
On Friday, October 18th there will be a breakfast to honor these staff members.  It will be held at Gorham Middle School (106 Weeks Rd.) at 9:15 am.  We are looking for your help….please consider donating a food item, juice, fruit, paper products, plastic silverware, coffee products cups, anything ‘breakfasty’ (is that a word?  ;-)
We also could use some help with set-up and clean-up  - our middle school kiddos start their lunches about 10:45 am so we need to have the cafeteria in ship shape when we leave.
Any help that you are willing and able to give please contact Betsy Nygren (bnygren1@maine.rr.com).   She is over seeing this event for us.

Thank you very much for making this a success!!!

A Message from Superintendent Ted Sharp

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

I hope you all enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to the new school year.  I want to let you know about an important change to the Gorham School Volunteer Program.   In February 2013, the Gorham School Board adopted a new policy related to volunteers.  It is part of the district’s continuing efforts to ensure the safety of all children attending our schools.  It states:

In the interest of protecting the safety of students and staff, the school unit will conduct criminal background checks on all volunteers who will be working directly with or will have access to students, including those chaperoning students on field trips or school-sponsored excursions.

When you fill out your volunteer registration form this year, you will be asked to provide your birth date and maiden name, if applicable.  This information will be submitted to the State Bureau of Identification.  Please note that criminal charges, investigations, arrests, or convictions for a crime will not necessarily bar you from volunteer service.   I will review any reports of criminal history and will decide whether the person may volunteer.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.   The Gorham Schools are grateful for the tremendous contribution you have made to the children of this community.

                                                        Sincerely yours,

                                                        Ted Sharp
                                                        Superintendent

Gorham School Volunteer Program
“Completely Paperless” Registration
2013-2014

Welcome back!!!  I am Heidi McGouldrick, Gorham Schools District Volunteer Coordinator.   There is a new policy in place for volunteers this year to help ensure the safety of our children.   Please continue to support our children by volunteering in the schools this year.  Your help is always needed and appreciated.

There are many ways that you can assist in this program:  (examples) chaperoning field trips, baking for events, helping with flu clinics, vision and hearing, working with students in the classroom, helping out with career days, photocopying, tutoring, and chaperoning dances.  These are a few ways that you can help!

Registration will take place on the Gorhamschools.org website.  The volunteer registration, confidentiality, and background forms are online at our gorhamschools.org website.  The paperwork will not be sent home this year.  There will be forms available in the office of each school.  However, we do ask that you make every attempt to complete the information online.  Thank you!

Process for becoming a volunteer for the 2013-2014 school year:

1.      Complete the volunteer registration form, volunteer agreement, and background information at Gorhamschools.org, located under the “Volunteer” heading.
2.      If you have not attended a volunteer orientation in the past please note the following dates.  This is about a 30 minute orientation that every new volunteer must attend once before they begin their volunteer time in the Gorham schools.

The volunteer orientation dates will be held on the following days:

Village School - Monday, September 9th at 9:00 am
Great Falls School – Wednesday, September 11th at 9:00 am
Narragansett School – Tuesday, September 10th at 9:00 am

If you are unable to attend one of the day options listed above I will be offering two evening volunteer orientations on the following dates:

Gorham Middle School – Tuesday, October 8th at 6:30 pm in the library
Gorham Middle school – Tuesday, October 15th at 6:30 pm in the library

Thank you in advance for all of the time and effort that you will be giving to the Gorham schools throughout the school year!  It is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Heidi McGouldrick
