Nearby the Church

Across the road from the Church is a white house with a plaque above the door.

The plaque says "1797." How old is that house?

At that time this house was used as a hotel, or what was called a "tavern."
Down the hill from the Church is a brick house. It has a sign by the door that says "Circa 1840." This was about the year the house was built.

The house was once a jail and was once a tannery, which is a place where the skins of animals were made into leather. It was once two buildings. Back in the 1800's, Toppen Robie put the two together to make one house.

Long ago the house was moved. It used to be where Burger King is today.
