The teens in this program are part of a cohort that will share a youth perspective on interpretive, curatorial, engagement, and marketing materials and strategies to promote access, equity, and belonging at the museum. Over the summer, fellows will learn how to research art history, lead gallery tours, create a Teen Zine, and plan and facilitate a Teen Night at the museum. In addition, the Homer High School Fellows will explore the creative process through art workshops, studio visits, artist talks, intensive gallery time, and team-building exercises. As a result, fellows will be exposed to career pathways in the museums and arts industries and receive mentorship from PMA staff and working artists.
This program is not only suitable for individuals certain of their future careers in the arts, but also for any student looking for insight into different professional paths, wanting to become more involved in their communities, or seeking to develop their leadership, interpersonal, and critical-thinking skills.
Eligibility: Applicants must be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors (age 14+), have reliable transportation to the PMA, and secure a work permit if under 16.
Program dates: June 30 - August 20, Tuesdays to Thursdays, 10am–4pm, plus Friday, August 14.
Compensation: $16.75 per hour.
Applications close April 3rd. After submitting an application, students will receive a link to a questionnaire. This questionnaire is due April 10th. Apply here: https://www.portlandmuseum.org/homer-high-school-fellows-program/

Our WRVC students had a wonderful experience at the SkillsUSA Maine State Championships in Bangor on March 12–13. Thirty-five students participated as competitors, volunteers, and models, representing their programs, schools, and communities with professionalism, pride, and enthusiasm. While several students earned medals, the greatest success was the incredible effort, teamwork, and learning that took place throughout the two-day event.
Congratulations to Evie Prather who earned GOLD in the Health Occupations Professional Portfolio!
