For any students and their families who are interested, NEACAC is hosting a College Fair on Thursday, May 22nd from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Augusta Civic Center! NEACAC is pleased to announce that they have partnered with StriveScan to bring student barcode scanning technology to their College Fairs. StriveScan will enhance the experience for students and colleges by making information exchange more efficient and productive, while also providing valuable data to their organization and the fair organizers. Students can register for NEACAC fairs at www.StriveFair.com. Upon registration, StriveScan will send students a barcode via text message and email, which you can then show to college reps. Registering for a barcode provides students with more information on each institution and allows you to connect with schools even after the event. Attention Seniors: The Portland Camera Club Latimer-Hutchinson Scholarship is an annual award of $1,500 to be used by the recipient for courses in still photography at an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Criteria: Graduating high school students, and home-schooled students age 17 or older may apply. Grant will be based on demonstrated and passionate dedication to photography. Requirements: Completed application (see "Application Process" below) Two letters of recommendation from people not related to applicant who can attest to the applicant's passion for photography. A personal statement from the applicant describing what photography means to them and how the scholarship will help foster personal growth and education in photography. Three photographic images made by the applicant which show the reviewers the quality of the applicant's work. Links to the applicant's social media postings or website of additional photographic images are encouraged but not required. Application Deadline: Completed applications must be received by no later than April 15th. Applicants are encouraged to review photography course offerings at an accredited post-secondary educational institution to determine what course(s) they would be interested in (i.e. - Maine Media Workshops and College and Maine College of Art and Design, SMCC). For any students who might be interested, Senator Collins is currently accepting applications for the coming summer’s Senate Page Program; this is an excellent opportunity for students to experience firsthand the legislative branch of our federal government! Pages will work until the Senate adjourns daily, so candidates need to be self-motivated with excellent academic records. The program requirements are as follows: Senate Pages must be sponsored by a Senator. With 30 pages per session, only the most senior members of the Senate can sponsor pages. Pages must be citizens of the United States or subject to agreements of the Department of State, and must have a social security number. Page eligibility is limited to juniors in high school who will be 16 or 17 years old on or before the date of appointment. Summer Page eligibility is limited to students who have completed their sophomore year and who will be 16 or 17 years old on or before the date of appointment. Pages must verify a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a home school transcript and a certification of immunization to qualify for attendance at the school. A general health assessment completed by a licensed physician is required, in addition to a certification of immunization. Pages must be covered by health insurance; if not covered, they will be required to enroll in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. There are two sessions: Session One: June 9th – June 27th Session Two: July 7th – August 1st Applications for both are due by April 1, 2025. Applications may be submitted using the link on Senator Collins website found at - https://www.collins.senate.gov/services/students Students may apply for future sessions that have not yet been announced. When applying for future sessions, students should note on their application which session they are applying for. Session dates are announced six to eight months in advance and will be posted as soon as they are available. The UMaine Chip Moody Consider Engineering Program is a challenging and rewarding four-day overnight summer program for high school juniors to get a taste of college life and what it takes to be an engineer! Be one of 108 students from Maine and around the U.S. invited to spend four days at the University of Maine participating in exciting engineering experiments, problem solving challenges, and great networking with faculty, practicing engineers and fellow campers—at no cost to you! This program is offered three times in July to groups of 36 students who have completed their junior year of study, excel in math and science, and demonstrate communication and leadership skills. This free-of-charge educational and inspiring program is competitive, with only half the applicants gaining admission. On campus food and lodging is provided. The Application Deadline for current high school juniors is April 15th. Former GHS student, Jacob Tatom, owns a nonprofit called Streets Charity Basketball where they travel to different cities to raise money for local and national charities through a 3v3 style of play. The next tournament is going to be March 29th at The Point Community Center so if you would like to register a team, it is $150 per team, so go ahead and go to the website; streetscharitybasketball.com to register. Teams must be 16+ and the winning team will receive a cash prize as well as their share to charity. There will be free jerseys, food, prizes, all star contest and more! I only have room for two teams to join and the first team to register will receive a $50 gift card to Plato’s closet.
