Fort Hill

In 1746 there were ten families living in the town. The families had cabins along what we now call Fort Hill Road. In 1746 a band of Indians came and before they were discovered, they had captured Reed and Cloudman who were tending their crops. The lndians were discovered during the massacre of Bryant and his children. Bryant's wife was captured and taken back to Quebec. The remaining settlers found security in the fort.

Near the location of the Fort is the first cemetery in Gorham. Some of the graves here were unmarked to prevent the lndians from knowing the Fort's strength in numbers.
